How does it work?

Step 1: Connect sources and track events

Start by integrating a social-listening tool that monitors Reddit mentions. Configure your keywords, competitor names, brand terms, negative keywords, and the subreddits you care about. We use OG tool for this, but you can use other tools, such as Octolens. 

Connect the webhook from the listener to Intempt so every qualified post arrives with basic details like URL, title, subreddit, author, and engagement. More on how to configure a webhook here. After you connect your webhook, you’ll get proper events when a Reddit mention happens.

Step 2: Create a Research Agent to enrich

Create a Research Agent in Intempt to analyze each incoming post and author. (How to create a research agent?) Inputs include post URL, title, and username. You can prompt the agent to output a research brief of the Reddit thread: what the author is asking, pains and desired outcomes, any triggers, inferred role/company size, a topic category (e.g., lead routing, CRM, analytics), and two or three reply angles that would feel native in that subreddit.

Best practice

Treat each subreddit as its own market. Culture, tone, and rules differ; never reuse the same messaging across subreddits (r/SaaS or r/Entrepreneur). Warm up accounts (earn baseline karma) before any brand mentions. Pace activity; avoid VPNs and anything that looks automated. 

How you give prompt and package your reply matters as much as insight: lead with story or numbers, avoid CTAs, and mention your product only when it clarifies the solution.

Step 3: Create a snippet to generate a reply in your persona

Create a Snippet in Intempt that takes the Research Brief and writes a short Reddit-ready reply in your persona. Write a proper prompt or use the Brand Kit to add your persona. More on snippets here.

Aim for two or three short paragraphs with one or two practical steps, a soft contrast on how you approach the problem, and a light offer to share a checklist if useful. Keep links off by default; enable a disclosure line when appropriate. Angles that win repeatedly are experience-first, checklist-style, and neutral comparisons.

Step 4: Notify humans and post with context

Build a Journey that triggers on each Reddit mention. Run the Research Agent, then the Snippet, and send a Slack message or email with everything needed to act in seconds: title, author, link to the thread, the research brief, two or three angles, and the recommended reply draft. 

You can also create a small task so someone owns the reply and monitors follow-ups.

Step 5: Measure and tighten the loop

For non-link replies, analyze traffic Intempt. You can also review engagement metrics inside Reddit (upvotes, saves, comments) and maintain a lightweight tracker of threads that start ranking in Google or appearing in AI answers. Promote angles and subreddits that drive qualified traffic and signups; retire those that don’t. Refresh your subreddit map and keyword list quarterly as patterns shift.
